Doug Gallaer, director of the Office of Career Planning and Placement at Christopher Newport College, distributes a list of preparation tips to students, which also apply to experienced professionals.
Motive questions are asked to determine if you would enjoy the job. They include: "Describe your ideal job." "Would you prefer to work for a large or small company? What did you like most/least about your last job? Management Recruiters suggests answering these as they relate to the job for which you are interviewing.
Another mistake sometimes made is improper dress. Management Recruiters suggests men wear a conservative suit, white shirt, contrasting tie, shined shoes and socks over the calf. For women, appropriate dress would be a skirted suit or dress with matching jacket, neutral colored hose, simple pumps and minimum makeup.
